ABOUT

The Black Policy Lab (BPL) creates space for rising community leaders to exchange ideas, develop strategies, and master effective legislative advocacy in pursuit of a safe and viable society for Black people and marginalized communities. BPL was launched in 2017 during the height of several movements, including Black Lives Matter, Women's March and #MeToo, as a way to create a different space for policy design outside of the typical expensive conference structure: one that bridges the gap between policy experts, community leaders and curious advocates and activists, and that sees everyone as an expert in something and a designer of our futures. We are proud to have equipped over 2500+ global problem-solvers at our conference, as well as within other spaces including the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Conference, Howard Law, and the annual Creating Change Conference. BPL has been supported by Rockefeller Foundation and Ford Foundation, and began a partnership with the NYU McSilver Institute for Poverty and Research in 2022.

Since its inception, BPL has been free to attendees, and practices our commitment to ensuring the inclusion of intersections within the Black community, including our LGBTQ+ and gender expansive community, disabled family members, and our Indigenous and immigrant connections. The more unique and creative spaces we create to connect and build, the more we all benefit.
